Dixie State College of Utah men's basketball team learned Sunday night they have been selected to participate in the 2010 NCAA Division-II National Tournament. The selection is the first for the college in only its second year of NCAA postseason eligibility
The Red Storm completed the regular-season with a 20-5 overall record. Their 14-2 mark in the Pacific West Conference has garnered them at least a share of the conference title.
Western Washington University will host the men's regional in Bellingham. Dixie State is no stranger to Sam Carver Gymnasium after playing the Vikings in non-conference action. DSC lost that meeting 81-73 on December 29.
The other schools making the tournament in the West are BYU-Hawaii, CSU San Bernardino, Cal Poly Pomona, Humboldt State, Seattle Pacific and Central Washington.
Seedings, other than #1 WWU, and first-round matchups have yet to be determined. The NCAA granted the Pac West an extension to play games postponed due to tsunami warnings in Hawaii.
First round play in the West Region begins Friday, March 12. The second round is Saturday, March 13 and regional final will be Monday, March 15. The winner of the West Region will head to Springfield, Mass. to compete in the Elite Eight beginning March 24. The D-II Championship Game will be Saturday, March 27 inside the MassMutual Center.
