ST. GEORGE, UTAH – Dixie State College of Utah announced Thursday that six high school seniors and one junior college transfer have signed National Letters of Intent to play football for Head Coach Scott Brumfield and the Red Storm next season.
“We are very excited about the caliber of kids we signed. We were able to get top quality players from the states of Utah and Nevada” said Brumfield. “We look forward to keeping the local kids here and for big things in the program.”
The signing class features three offensive and four defensive players. Highlighting the class is quarterback Cody Stevenson from Juan Diego High School. The Utah 3A First-teamer was the MVP of the state championship win over Hurricane in 2009. He passed for 111 yards on seven completions in the title game. The 6-foot-5 QB chose Dixie State over other Division-II schools because he wanted to stay in-state so his family could attend games.
Utah 5A first-team RB/DB La’au Tanavasa (5’11” 190 lbs.) from Hunter High and Trey McElhaney (6’4” 230 lbs.), Nevada All-State DE, from Las Vegas adds depth to the defensive front.
A pair of Dixie High Flyer linebackers - Taylor Webster and Garrett Christensen, Pine View WR Kaden Hosner (6’2” 175 lbs.) and San Joaquin Delta College transfer Joseph Cowen (OL, 6’0” 300 lbs.) round out the 2010 signees.
Dixie State Football kicks off the 2010 season at Adams State College on August 28 in Alamosa, Colorado.
