BELLINGHAM, WA-Dixie State's golf team made a big step forward, winning the Western Washington Invitational, which featured a couple of top 25 teams including Grand Canyon, Western Washington and British Columbia.

Does beating that many quality teams mean Dixie State is a top 25 program? Coach Reed McArthur said so.

"I definitely think we are (a top 25 team)," he said. "To a win a tournament like this proves to the team, that they have a reason to be at the national level."

The Red Storm won the tournament by four strokes. British Columbia shot an 859 as a team, finishing second, followed by Chico State third. Western Washington and Hawaii-Hilo rounded out the top five.

As the tournament continued, Dixie State seemed to get better as the tournament progressed.

The Red Storm started off the tournament on the wrong foot, shooting a 297, which put them in the middle of the pack.

McArthur called the conditions on that day perfect, but as the weather became less and less favorable, the Red Storm's scores got lower.

"We had tougher scoring conditions (in the final round than the first round)," he said.

Kyle Chappell and Cameron Crawford each shot eight-under for the tournmanet, but Chappell home first on a playoff.

"They drive on each other, and I think it makes a big difference," McArthur said. "This team has very good players. They get along and have fun."
