BYU-Hawaii defends Hawaiian Airlines PacWest Women's Tennis Championship with 5-2 win vs. HPU KAILUA-KONA, HI – BYU-Hawaii captured the 2009 Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Women's Tennis Championship on Saturday by rolling over Hawaii Pacific 5-2 in the title match. The Seasiders claimed two of the three doubles bouts and won three of the four contested singles matches. Yuan Ji was selected the tournament's Most Valuable Player after teaming up with Elwin Li to claim the first doubles match over Zora Vickova and Ingred Cseh. She then beat Nina Mihova of HPU in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. The three-day Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Women's Tennis Championship will continue Saturday afternoon as the battles for third, fifth and seventh place play out at the Holua Resort at Mauna Loa Village in Kailua-Kona, HI. The tournament Sportsman Award was presented to Christie Pagatpatan of host Hawai'i Hilo. Seventh place went to Dixie State after the Red Storm swamped Noter Dame de Namur 5-0, while third place belong to Hawai'i Hilo after the Vulcans pounced on Chaminade 5-1.
